Common questions

The quick answers most parents ask before they apply.

Why do parents choose ChildShield?

Because it pays cash directly to you the moment life throws something at your family — broken bones, hospital stays, serious illness — so you can focus on your child instead of the bills. It also unlocks 24/7 virtual GP appointments for your whole household, usable anywhere in the world.

How much does it cost — and can the price go up?

Plans start from £6 a month. Your premium does not go up because you've claimed, and the cash benefit amounts are set out clearly upfront in the MetLife policy documents — no surprises.

Who can apply, and who's covered?

Any UK resident parent, step-parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian aged 18–93 can apply. The policy covers your eligible children — biological, adopted, step-children or those under your legal guardianship — up to their 23rd birthday. The policy doesn't cover you (the parent), only your child(ren).

Is there a limit on how many times I can claim?

No. There is no cap on the number of valid claims you can make in your policy year. Each claim is paid up to the benefit amounts shown in the MetLife Policy Booklet — and claiming does not push your price up.

Are there any medical questions to answer?

No medical underwriting and no health questions — anyone eligible can apply in minutes. Cover starts as soon as your plan is in place. Full details of what is and isn't covered (including how pre-existing conditions are treated) are set out clearly in the MetLife policy documents.

How are payouts made if I claim?

Cash is paid directly into your bank account on a successful claim, in line with the benefit amounts in your MetLife Policy Booklet — yours to spend on whatever your family needs most.

What about the virtual GP — how does it work?

You and your household get unlimited 24/7 access to a UK-qualified virtual GP by phone or video, with private prescriptions where appropriate. It works worldwide, so it's there for you on holiday too.

Can I change my mind?

Yes. You have a 30-day cooling-off period from your start date — cancel within that window for a full refund. After that, you can cancel at any time in line with the terms in your MetLife Policy Booklet.

How do I pay?

By Direct Debit, set up securely online during your application. You choose the collection date — anywhere from the 1st to the 28th of the month — and you're protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

Who actually provides the insurance?

ChildShield.co.uk (Look4Cover Ltd) is your FCA-authorised insurance intermediary — we arrange and set up the plan for you. The insurance itself is underwritten by MetLife Europe d.a.c., who issue the policy and pay any valid claims.

"When my daughter broke her wrist falling off her scooter, the claim was so easy. Money in our account in days — paid for the time off work and a treat to cheer her up."
